junk mail from bank surprise

I use Alliance and Leicester internet banking. I found this morning that I could not make any payments or transfers. The bank said it was because of "concerns" about my address. Appears that returning junk mail by marking it JUNK MAIL and putting it in the post is sufficient grounds for the bank to block my account! They said that in future I should put the junk mail in the bin. I explained that I don't have a shredder and the bin bags are transparent, however, the visible junk mail in the bins does not appear to be a security risk...

I'm not sure wether to be angry or to laugh.

Ask them to remove you from their spam lists. I've done this with lloyds tsb and they are very good now.

Tell them they either stop sending you spam or you'll move your account.

Exactly, and mention the Data Protection Act "please stop processing my personal details for the purposes of direct marketing"

Excellent

A bit draconian (in this case) - and involved one in a fair bit of work. Simply quote the DP Act (above) and if that fails, have a word with ICO:

And register for the MPS

I did this with the HSBC. They kept sending me junk so I did move and found a much better deal elsewhere.
