Keeping bank accounts when leaving the UK

May 30, 2008 2 Replies

I have a current International Student account with HSBC and savings accounts with ING Direct. I am going to leave the UK soon. Will they let me keep my accounts with foreign addresses?

If not, is there a bank that would? I could open the account while I still reside in the UK.

You need to ask at the bank! My daughter has lived in California for about 10 years, and still has an account with NatWest. When I went there with her there seemed to be a problem, but it might have been to do with her pin number.

The impression we got is that they do not allow "forriners" to open new accounts, but will allow them to retain an existing one.

You'll have to ask them.

It might be different if you were from abroad first... but ask.
