Can anyone advise me of the best (ie cheapest and most reliable) way to send a sum of around 10k to a relative in Germany?

I have his bank details etc..

I got our bank (HSBC) to xfer some money abroad - after asking them to sharpen their pencil they knocked £400.00 off the overall cost.
