&more balance transfers

Does anyone know if these transfers are 0% for 6 months from the date the account is opened or 6 months from the date of the transfer?

I have just got my &more card and I think I got through to a call centre in Varanasi (hope this is spelt right!) where a very friendly chap called Mahendranath activated my card for me.

The first hurdle was to avoid being sold the repayment insurance *just* 75 pence per month per 100 (read 37.50 per month on a 5k transfer!!), where I had to almost apologise for not actually needing it!

Secondly and more importantly he said that I get 0% 6 months from the date of the transfer, when I'm used to it being from the account opening date, but he was *insistent* that it's 6 months from the date of the transfer. This seems at odds with the printed leaflet, so I'm wondering what the real answer is?

I had this argument with them when I got charged interest towards the end of the 0% period. I actually rang them up about two months before to confirm that it was the date of the transfer and not when the account was opened when the 0% period ended. I asked them to make a full and detailed note on my account that this is what they had said. Then, lo and behold, I get charged interest. When I rang up to complain, the guy said it was the date of the account opening they count from - I then asked him to read my account notes. He found the note that I'd rang up previously and said that although the information I was given was wrong, they would make an ex-gratia refund of the interest. Too bloody right!

It's all very well ringing up and asking - you need to make sure they make a note of it. And if your particularly paranoid - ring back ten minutes later and speak to another operator to make sure the previous assistant actually made the note.

Record all phone calls like this. They do it too. For training purposes, obviously. I think you're supposed to tell someone that you're recording them but if you tell them before you start recording then you won't have a record of that, obviously, in case they want you to prove you asked them later. Of course, if they're taping it too it'll be ok, right?

Surely legally anything the guy in the call centre says is done as an agent on the company's behalf so even if it's not in the written contract you've signed it is now legally binding - can anyone confirm this?

Well I did my transfer today via a telephone instruction, and they insisted on telling me in no uncertain terms that it's 0% 6 months from the TRANSFER DATE. I was careful to make sure I got the exact "account opening date", (which was over 10 days ago!) so I will be making sure it's paid off within

6 months of *that* date, as I do not want to have the hassle of arguing about it later.
