NatWest FastPay - cannot withdraw

I had a letter yesterday telling me the FastPay service was being discontinued 15th July and advising me to go to the site and withdraw any balance. It proved impossible. I'd have expected the balance to either be easily creditable to the current bank account on which my Switch card is based, but that gives an error. Maybe because the card has been updated since I set it up ages ago. But come to think, it seems illogical anyway to *withdraw* money 'to' a debit card?

I've used the Contact link, but meanwhile, anyone else in similar situation please?

Thank you for reminding me. I have just emptied my Fastpay account. When I tried to withdraw to my debit card I got an error message (059 I think) I went to change details and looked for edit card details, eventually I found that I could click on the word debit card and then update the expiry dates for the card, then I could withdraw the balance. If you have difficulty email me and I'll try and help.

Thanks. I still cannot do it. The last 4 digits of my card cannot be edited using Change. Yet the old number is no longer valid. And although it strangely *does* let me enter the new start and expiry dates (against the existing invalid card!), I still get an error message when I try to Take Out. Crazy design. Doesn't seem to allow for new replacement cards...

Your not withdrawing money 'to' the card. You are transferring the money to the account upon which the debit card operates.

Understood - but as you see, it doesn't work as the card is invalid and I cannot change it - Catch 22!

My understanding is that is exactly what you are probably trying to do, basically in the same way as a shop would apply a refund to your debit card and thus your bank account if you returned goods that you had paid for on your debit card, Fastpay is doing the same thing as opposed to transferring the money via BACS into your bank account which is another option they claim to offer for withdrawing money.

Presumably you can't just add a new debit card or bank account as their help site suggests. All I can think beyond that would be to send them a "contact us" and hope they respond quick enough to take some action; failing that walk into your local RBOS or Natwest branch as demand they find you a telephone number for the department that deals with fastpay - refuse to leave until they find one - they will probably try and fob you off but they should get the idea if you occupy the branch until you get a result.

Thanks, that's an accurate summary of status so far. As mentioned, I have used the Contact link, and will chase today. I also went through the procedure to add a new Debit card. That appeared to work - but I'm now in the silly position of waiting 3-5 days for email confirmation from them of the random amount they've *added* to my FastPay account (from my unchanged NatWest current account!), which I then have to enter as a security measure before using that new card. With deadline due on Friday, that's so stupid!

Scary! Would a "sawn-off" help? :-(

What do you propose? Walking into a bank with a sawn-off shotgun and shoving a note under the counter saying "I want FASTPAY BALANCE and you can recover it from my Fastpay account (A/C REF NO.) now or I will blow you head off" - unfortunately I am not sure it would work somehow. :-)

A local pig farmer went into our local council office and refused to leave until they sorted out the fact they were suddenly threatening to take him to court for failure to pay his rates from a few years previous (which he had paid), previous attempts to resolve it over the phone failed, after an hour or so occupying the office the matter was magically sorted - whether he had previously been mucking the pigs out one has to wonder!.

Check your recent NatWest transactions via ATM.

That's a neat idea, thanks, I could do that tomorrow when I'm in the High Street. Alternatively, its reminded me that I still have ActionLine, so I could do it that way.

Meanwhile, after a *lot* of 'phoning, I found someone capable of finding a phone number for this FastPay department. I eventually received assurance that I'd get my money by one of two routes:

  1. Withdrawing it myself via newly-added debit card, if that can be done before last stroke of midnight Thursday. (Stretches the '15th July deadline' a bit IMO; I'd assumed midnight on Friday.)
  2. 'Special' arrangements!
