New blue Egg credit card

I've had one of those good old green Egg cards for several years. At first I used it almost exclusively because of the 1% cashback (more if you shopped at the Egg internet store). I gave up using it when they reduced the cashback to 0.5%, as I could now get a better deal elsewhere. That must have been nearly 2 years ago. Recently they reduced it again to a derisory 0.1%, although you can get more by taking up selected special offers you probably don't want anyway.

Today I received a letter from them:

""As one of our best Egg card customers, you've been selected to be one of the first to receive the new blue Egg Card. What's more we have already approved you for a credit limit of 8000. 0.5% cashback on all purchases. 10% cash back at Virgin Wine. (etc)"

Nice one. Why issue a new card with a 0.5% cashback just after slashing the cashback on the existing card? How long can we expect it to remain at 0.5%?

At least I am able to take advantage of this wonderful offer - not that I am going to. In the case of my Egg savings account I have twice been offered a bonus if I took out a new account. Since I already have one, I regard this as just insulting. Once I filled in a "customer survey" about my (green) Egg Card. I don't recall answering any questions like "would you like us to halve your cashback?", but when they did that, they cited "overwhelming public demand" as the reason. On the next survey, they asked what we felt about the information they sent out. The only remotely appropriate answer I could find offered was "patronising".

I ditched my Egg Card as well after they reduced the cash back rate. Switched to A & L. I think it's 1%. I still have the Egg one as back up just in case the missus overspends a bit. :o(

The only really good reason for keeping the Egg card is the ability to transfer balnces (during the 0% holiday) to a current account which is interest paying - I'm not aware of any other cards which allow a direct transfer to a current account.
