cashback: amex blue

Amex have today notified cardholder that cashbash is being reduced to:

All spend up to 2000 = 0.5% Over 2000 = 1%

This is theefore a reduction of 10 a year in benefits to cardholders. The highest cashback card is now the Accucard which will pay up to 0.8%

But on the above figures, Amex will beat Accucard if you spend over 5000 each year!

I have just started my second year with amex and still seem to be getting 1% of my spend credited to accrued cashback, and I have not spent 2k yet!

That's a relief - I just canceled them because the kept making mistakes.

I think Morgan Stanley offers more than 0.5% on the first few 1000. I think it's 0.8 up to 2000 a year but don't quote me.

Morgan Stanley is 0.5% on first 2000, then 1% after.

I had (still got a capital one account). They reduced cashback from 1% to

0.5% from August this year.

They *used* to be that way round. They switched around (now 1% on first

2000, then 0.5% after) a while back.

Are you sure? Didnt you get a letter from them. I even wrote to them to complain telling them Id close the account after the cashback had been credited.

They wrote back and said that cash back was 0.5% and was reduced so that they could make the card more competative, but I cant tell you what additional features will be avaliable yet!

Aren't they reducing that to 0.5% soon (Accucard) ??

Thanks Daniel

Not for me they didn't. I guess it may depend on how much you were spending with them. I probably do about £12k a year or so. (Capital One Circles card). I got an Amex Blue in pre-emptive self-defence mode and then Capital One screwed me up by not screwing me after all. 8>.

I still have 1% on my Capital One Circle Card as well - most customers were reduced to 0.5% but some were kept at 1% - no idea how they/we were selected by MBNA

My mothers was reduced, mine wasn't...

Without a hint of irony, "cliveP" astounded uk.finance on 30 Sep 2004 by announcing:

Yes. My latest statement said I was earning 1% cashback.

I'm not sure whether this is based on credit limit - mine is 5 grand.

Amex Platinum is up to 2% on a tiered basis. I think spending over

7500 gets 2% cashback.
