RE:Credit File Contents

Recently received my credit file from Experian. I thought that the details should show all of my bank accounts, yet it shows none, only a couple of searches. What do the rest of you see? Would I get something different from Equifax?

Not all banks use Experian - some use Equifax or Call Credit (some use a combination). Not all banks will register all accounts.

It entirely depends on the bank you're using. Most of my accounts are registered with both Experian and Equifax. A couple of my accounts aren't registered with either.

Well I've got my files from Experian Equifax and CallCredit. I have two current accounts with different banks, yet NONE show up in the results. The reason I'm curious about this is that I saw a post a while ago, which I now cannot find, that inferred that bodies like the Inland Revenue, DWP can inspect a credit file with or without the subject's knowledge. What is the use of that if such vital data is missing? To make it stranger still, Experian show a search by Barclays but no trace of the bank account that I then opened with them?

Not entirely surprising.

That would depend on what they hope to gain from such access.

That's not strange at all. All searches are recorded automatically. Accounts are only recorded if the institution requests (and pays for) it.

Not all financial institutions report to credit reference agencies. Use them? Yes. Send data in? Not necessarily.

Up until quirte recently, none of the clearing banks contributed data, although the viewed data. HSBC and RBS have now started contributing data and more may follow suit. I think the problem for the clearing banks was their legacy IT systems.

Thanks everyone. I suppose it is reassuring in some respects that Big Brother can't find out everything about us after all
