Can some one tell me where I can find information on Charges I must expect to pay when buying goods from Germany. I am thinking of buying some furniture etc from the net (for our own use). Will there be any duties or VAT to pay? Are there any other matters that I shold be worried about?

Assuming you are in the UK, you will pay either German or UK VAT. In practice, it's usually charged at the rate of the sender's country. There are no import duties within the UK, but (as has recently been hughlighted in the news) there are excuse duties. These don't however, apply to furniture (nor most other things).
