Why do you believe we would have fewer export markets? The proposal is that we withdraw from the EU, not that we stop trading with it.

Regarding the second reason there's nothing to stop us withdrawing from the EU while keeping any EU laws parliament considers beneficial to us.

1. There are all those irrevocable treaties that were entered into after the referendum (you know what you have when you intend to make constitutional change that can't easily be reversed). We could abrogate them, but that would do wonders for the UK's future reputation. Even Stalin stuck to his foreign treaties.

1. No doubt tarrif barriers would be erected. Reliant as the UK is on trade and operating the worlds largest financial market this could be seen as self harm.

2. Then there would be all the hassle of customs, carnets, cartes de sejour, visas etc.

1. Most big players from the rest of the world would almost immediately move their HQ's from the UK into the EU. Indeed many of the big players in the UK would shift to the EU. Then they would move the factories too.

I suppose we could impose our own fishing quotas and go back to imperial units, the milk / potato marketing boards, British Lion eggs, put up the price of wine and lower the price of beer.

So pull up the drawbridge and settle in for a long siege.

I think Norway do contribute to the EU budget albeit at a lesser rate than they would if they were a member. The EU has some political control over Norway but less than it has over the UK. The trade off is that we have far more influence over the EU than Norway does. EU membership fees are a small % of total UK government spending.
