quick question regarding SOX/GAAS/other rules regarding employee of client working for auditor

Assume Employee A works in the accounting department for Client C, a non-public company. Client C is audited by Auditor D. How long does Employee A have to not work at Client C before he or she can work for Auditor D on the audit or Client C? Does the answer change if the company is public?
