Online banking

Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with ING Direct, the online banking company? They offer the highest rates on saving accounts and CDs, and seem to be relatively easy to use online.

No experience with ING, but I don't have an online bank. Just be aware that they don't offer many of the services offered by a physical bank. For example, my online bank does have offices, but one time I was trying to deposit some cash and found out that they don't take cash, don't even have a vault. I had to go buy a CD with my cash from another bank and deposit that into my online bank.

ING Direct has been excellent in my experience.

Their savings isn't always the highest rate - but it's consistently one of the higher ones. Their website is easy to navigate and their customer communications are perhaps the clearest I've seen.

There are no branches and to use their savings account, you link it electronically to your existing checking account.

They also have an almost-checking account, where you are able to make electronic payments, but they won't send you paper checks. The lack of paper checks was a deal breaker for me, as I still need to write paper checks on a regular basis.

Anyway, ING's okay.
