Create New Category

This may seem eccentric, but I want to create a new sale type. I want it to operate like a Layaway. Basically it would be identical to a Layaway only I would be calling it something else and I would like to give it a short cut in the POS screen by utilizing either the Shift + FN or Ctrl + FN keys. We are currently using the Layaway, Quote, Work Order, and Backorder so we need another category. I hope I am making sense. I just want to see if anyone has tried something like this before or would I be wasting my time. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Can you explain why you need a separate sales type? If it works like a layaway, why not use Layaway? Where are you trying to create the separation - Accounting, Receipt, Report, something else?

Creating (really emulating) a new sales type would require a rather extensive customization, but if you expand on what you are trying to get out of this, someone may come up with a process that gets what you want within the system...

Glenn,

I am trying to create a separate sales type so I can have an online registry. The purpose of this is for when people come to register for items we can then put there list of item into RMS and keep track of them. So when people come to buy items for that registry we can then take that item off the list by doing a partial pick up. Once that is done I can run a report at the end of the day that has the customers Name, Items they still need, and items that were purchased for them. I can take this report export it to HTML and then FTP it to my website to overwrite the existing HTML report. I have a link on my website called registry that once clicked it lists all couples names and what they still need. I know this is low grade but it would offer a little convenience to our customers so they can show people what they have registered for. I want the Layaway functionality mainly because it allows you to do a partial pickup. However I would prefer to use quotes. Since quotes do not commit inventory, but the problem with a quote is that you cannot just pick up 1 thing off the list. Either they buy everything or nothing. That?s pretty much it. Tell me what you think.

How about adding a comment in Transaction details that includes a keyword like "REGISTRY" (maybe with a Macro)? Should be possible to add a filter to your layaway report that lets you filter by this field, or just create a custom report that includes the filter by default. Would that get you what you are after?

Glenn,

I have to say GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE. That is how I am currently doing it. I got the Custom Report done and everything. The problem is that I don't have perfect employees. So when they create the Registry under Layaway they forget to put registry in the comment box. So now this registry looks like an ordinary layaway. That is why I want to create a registry option. However the registry in comment field works great if done correctly.

Thank you for the quick response.

I think that you can create a Macro to enter Layaway mode and add the comment. After that, you could create a Custom POS Button to call your macro. Code to generate such a custom button has been posted here in the past - you may have to search Google Groups to find it though since MS purges messages from this server pretty quickly.

I will give the Macro idea a shot. Thanks for the advice. I really do appreciate your responses.

Thank you,
