Customer deposit possible in POS 1.0?

MSPOS doesn't have support for taking deposits on transactions. If your business processes a large percentage of transactions requiring deposits, I would recommend upgrading to RMS. It has built in functionality to handle this.

That said, I've come up with somewhat kludgy workaround, that should do the trick.

First, you'll need to create a non-inventory, non-taxable item with the description "Deposit".

When taking an order than requires a deposit: ==========================================1. Ring up the item the customer is ordering, and change the quantity sold to 0 (instead of 1).

1. Then, ring up the "Deposit" item and set the price to the amount of your required deposit. This should make the total due only the amount of the deposit.

1. Tender the sale and collect the deposit amount.

When the customer comes to pick up the item: =========================================1. Recall the transaction for return (by scanning the receipt or looking it up), and return "All Items".

1. Then, set the Qty Sold for the item to 1 (instead of 0). The deposit that was previously collected will now reduce the total amount due for the item.

1. Tender the sale and collect the remaining balance on the item.

Let me know if this works for you, or if it needs further clarification. It may not be a perfect solution, but if you only need to do this once in a while, it should suffice.
