Gift Loyalty Good or Bad?

Just wondering what people who use Gift Loyalty Add-On's think of them? Can't you do generally the same thing with just RMS? For example, issue customer cards via barcode, run a report for customers who spent over $100 for example, and issue a credit to them for say $5.00? Of course the amounts are examples...but what good is a loyalty program, please anyone explain?

I want a loyalty program to keep track of qualifying purchases. For example, there are several departments, and a few items from other departments that I want excluded from counting towards a reward. These items have a very low margin on them already so I can't afford to give another discount on them. Also, the loyalty programs print the reward at the time of the sale, so it happens instantly for my customer. And then there's the hassle of running the appropriate reports to identify customers that qualify. And finally, you would either have to remember to give those customers their rewards the next time they come in, or mail it to them. You could do this all yourself, but my time is too valuable. Besides, this is one of the reasons I bought a POS system in the first place. To do all the heavy lifting ;)Craig
