Label Printing is NOT easy

I have tried Argox, Godex, Datamax to print Label Designer outputs from my RMS (so we can add labels to our Salad Paks) and none of these printers can get the top margin right or get the full text field that shows in the Preview on RMS to land on a 60mm x 40mm label. That's 2.4 x 1.6 inches for those stuck with Imperial dimensions! I urgently ned a suggestion. DFoes the ZEBRA TL 2428 (as mentioned in other posts) print RMS output, straight from the box? Any help will get a Free Smoothie voucher when they next visit Dubai!

Timothy,

Out of the box no. You will have to custom build a label using the ELP2 programming guide. You can download the guide from

they require a registration on there website. I did a search in google and found this site you can download without registering
formatting link
. It is pretty easy to create the label format though, for example the below code is for a 2.25 x 1.25 label.

************************************* '2.25x1.25 Zebra Sticky Label [INITIALIZE] [LABEL] N ZT Q253,29 S4 D10 A75,10,0,3,1,1,R,"Type your store name here" B50,50,0,1C,1,2,75,B,"" A250,75,0,2,2,3,N,"" A10,160,0,2,2,3,N,"Size: " A10,225,0,2,1,1,N,"Desc: " P1 N [FINALIZE] *************************************** This label includes the Matrix Dimension, you can delete that line and move up the Description. The first character signifies if it is text or a barcode. The first set of numbers is the x - axis coordinates. Second is the y - axis coordinates. Third is the rotation. 0 = 0 and 1 = 90 and so on... Fourth is the font. Fifth expands text horizontally Sixth expands text vertically. Seventh, N = normal and R = reverse, placing an R will make the text look like a negative image.

That reveals to me that the label printer functionality in RMS needs to be up-graded well beyond a few Avery Label formats. Your expert advice is just great. Will that be a Jumbo Tropicana or a Banana & Date Bliss Bomb? Your smoothie awaits you in Dubai! Many thanks Tim E.

Hello Timothy,

I have an IDATA 4208 in the warehouse and I recently purchased 4 Zebra TLP

2844's one for each furniture store. I built a custom label in RMS and and used the Zebra user defined setup for the custom label dimensions. In the end I got it working fine but a couple of lessons learned:

RMS was not picking up the printer unless I went with the MS install on detecting the printer.

Once the Printer was detected I had to select the printer in RMS but it was not 'retaining' the printer properties until I restarted the box and RMS. Then the printer properties were being picked up right away.

If the printed label was not quite spacing correctly on the physical label, check your label gap and check the spacing entered. In the end I moved the fields up a tad in the label designer to get them spacing better on the label.

Hope this helps,

Ed
