Label with today's Date

Is there any option to include the system date on a label? Currently we code by hand on each label when the item was put on the shelf to move the inventory (oldest first). I'd like to just have the system date printed on the label so the manual step can be avoided.

I can see that fields can be selected from the item table and that static text can be included but nothing for the system date.

If you use RMS Label Designer with a Windows driver for your printer, Date Last Sold and Date Last Received are supported as a field entry. Last Received should work for you assuming you label the products when received or at least pack the labels into the box, so when the case is opened labels are ready to apply. This is a better indicator of aged stock as well.

If you are using a dedicated barcode printer such as Cognitive Advantage or Zebra model, you can use our Power Ops tool to print labels with Date Last Received, Date Last Sold, or Date Printed (system date). This only works if you use direct-to-printer label formats and a Generic Text-only driver. Labels created in RMS Label Designer for a Windows driver are not supported.

See Help, Operation, SWAT Search, View Item Details, Labels. For sample labels look in Program Files, DRS, DRS Power Ops (not the Labels folder which contains the originals). Open any of the label files ending in .lbl with Notepad to view/edit labels. The common commands to format a label are listed at the bottom. Contact your RMS reseller if you need assistance with custom labels. Power Ops supports up to 9 label formats (label1.lbl, label2.lbl, etc.).

Thank you for the suggestion of using the received date. Unfortunately, that's not working as I hoped. The reason is that I purchase in bulk (eg.

50-100 lbs.) and then have kit items that I build as I break down the bulk into sellable sizes. It's the smaller consumer sized items that I'm tring to get the date onto so the shelves are stocked with the oldest first.

If anyone has other ideas please let me know. I do have a zebra printer but hoped that I wouldn't have to purchase another software product to do this.
