Global Voucher/Gift Cards

Greetings,

I'm at the point were I'm going to implement a gift card system for my customer. I know all about the "off-site" processing systems like Mercury and Givex and my customer is not particularly interested in those at the moment.

Therefore, I'm looking at the add-ons to implement global vouchers in RMS HQ/SO 2.0 using what RMS already has. There are a couple of those add-ons to be found with the search and I'm going to explore those.

What I'm looking for here is any feedback from folks who have used an add-on for global vouchers. Experiences, likes, dislikes, the usual stuff :).

Thanks.

We have a number of partners and end users using our RITE Gift system. This is not exactly a global voucher system, but does allow real time processing of gift cards via the web, and is directly integrated into RMS. The backed can be set up anywhere you or your customer would like, so there are no hidden or reoccurring fees. If you are interested in learning more, please contact me.

I just implemented the Centralized Voucher System from Retail POS. I am not an employee or rep for this company (just an merchant using the software).

There are a few nice pieces for this product:

- It is transparent to my cashiers (the voucher lookups and tendering are the same as the original).

- The existing vouchers were pulled into the configuration so no recoding or dual lists needed to be kept.

- The product uses the existing HQ Worksheets that are already setup so no additional outside sync to manage.

If you do decide to go with another I would specifically ask a few questions (I was burned by another s/w that I tried and it didn't work).

- What "extra" software is necessary for functionality.

- Are existing vouchers converted.

- Can vouchers be re-charged and reused.

- What OS does the software support.

- Can the software handle pre-printed serialed cards (plastic gift cards).

Some of these items may not pertain to your situation, but better to think before you waste your time.

Hi there,

I will like to have the ability to use Global vouchers a well, we have 4 stores in the same city so if a customer buy a Gift Certificate or Credit note at one store we need to let him use it at any of our location in this city. Espacially for the Gift Certificate. But because serail # are specific to a store they can only use it in the store in where they bought it.

Is there a work arround for this or do I need a third party app. And if so, which 3rd app can allow me to do that ?

Please help.

Thank you,

Julien

If you are interested in not complicating your POS system, or I guess I should say if you are interested in keeping your POS software and POS system as one fully integrated solution and if you already process credit cards (have a credit card processor), ask your credit card processor if they have a gift card program. If they do, and most likely they do, you will be still using the same system that you use for the credit card processing (no additional machines, swipers, software, etc...).

Julien, Sadly, this is not a function built into RMS. The information is not synchronized via HQ. Not only that but if you have multiple stores in the same city, you are open to problems with synchronization timing. Let me explain. Let's say you have HQ syncing every 15 minutes (which is pretty often). Now someone comes in just after the last HQ sync and uses a Voucher that has $50 on it. Well it's going take up to 15 minutes for that information to upload to HQ. Once it is at HQ, it does not mean that the information has been passed to the other stores, it could potentially take up to another 15 minutes for the updated balance to be passed to the stores. This leaves a potential window of up to 30 minutes where a customer could use a Voucher once, race to another location and use it again before the sync. Would this be a common occurrence? Probably not, but it does leave room for problems.

When we developed our RITE Gift add-in, we set out to correct both problems. We now have dozens of chains using our software and loving it. We like to think we've done a reasonable job of keeping the software cost effective. So if you are interested in learning more about what we have to offer, please feel free to get in touch with me.

Synchronization timing is not a problem for us because de customer has to have the receipt to redeem a credit note, and he has to have the gift certificate in order to redeem it.

Once it's redeemed we keep the gift certificate, or we stamp the receipt if it's a credit note.

So timing is not a problem here.

Hi Ryan,

I'm interested to buy your products, but I have some questions that I'll like you to answer first.

  1. Is your add-on allows multiple type of vouchers (Credit Notes, Gift Certificates... etc)?
  2. What do you mean when you say that there will be no sync timing problem with your app?
  3. What kind of licensing is your software using - 1 Per Store - 1 Per Company - Etc...
  4. Do I need to renew my licenses every years?
  5. How much does it cost.
  6. Does it use a 3rd database (that you're managing....)

Waiting for your reply.

Regards,

Julien

Julien, Please let me try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

  1. RITE Gift does allow you to define multiple "RITE Gift Accounts" that allow you to separate gift card funds from an accounting standpoint.
  2. Our application updates gift card balances real-time over the internet. Any time you add funds to, or use funds on a gift card the transaction is sent to your server immediately.
  3. Our licensing for all of our products is per lane/per store
  4. Once you purchase a license to our software, there are currently no reoccurring license fees, nor do we foresee implementing them.
  5. Pricing on the program is 9 for the first license, for licenses 2 and 3, and each license over 3 is .00. Again licensing is per store, so this starts over at each store.
  6. The program does require a database, but not one we manage. If you are running RMS Headquarters, we recommend using this as your RITE Gift database, though this is not a requirement as our program was built to be independent of any POS software.

If you have more questions or need any more information, please contact me via email or give me a ring at the number below.
