Integrated Gift Cards

Regarding Gift Cards, Does the software allow for Integrated Gift Card Processing? Meaning- can they gift card be swiped throught the keyboard with a Magstripe reader and have it read the amount on the gift card, or does the client needs to hava a seperate machine for this transaction? My potential client wants this to be integrated with the software- is this possible? Andrea

Andrea,

Try Ctrl-Shift-F3 for the Voucher function.

Good luck, Matt

Andrea,

If you swipe your cards through the keyboard to process the sale, then you should be able to swipe the card through the keyboard in the Voucher function.

Is that what you meant?

Andrea,

The it depends on your keyboard/magstripe reader configuration. I have been unable to the magswipe to work with voucher tender types with IBM POS systems, but I think it may work with Cherry wedge.

The actual swipe will read the card number. The amount left on the card is stored in the SO database and is recalled from the database when the number is entered (either swiped or typed).

You could get an add-in like giveX, or (I think ) Mercury Payment. You're probably not going to get this sort of functionality out of the Voucher system though. Vouchers just want a simple serial number; Credit and Debit Cards want an account number, expiration date, some other stuff and specific leading and trailing characters. You either need an add in that takes control of the (probably OPOS) MSR and gets the appropriate information for each tender type, or you need 2 separate MSRs - one to read the 'standard' CC format and another to read the gift card.

A bar-coded Gift Card is much simpler to read than a Magnertic card...

for the IBM keyboard you have to send the code to activate the MSR...it is only on when you turn it on versus the others such as cherry which is in an always on state
