MS Point of Sale Purchase Order Format

MS POS system. When a P/O prints out, the bar code is very fat and is unable to be read by our scanner. Does anyone know how to change it to something deceipherable by a scanner?

Also, you may just need to change the purchase order number to something that prints a readable barcode. small numbers like 1, 2, 3 are generally not readable, while 0001, 0002, 0003 or 1001, 1002, 1003 are.
