Antonio, I would like to see an application that allows taking physical inventory using a wireless PPC device. Ideally, you could write a front end to the RMS SQL database that runs on the PPC which directly inserts records into the "PhysicalInventory" and "PhysicalInventryEntry" tables.

When done properly, these insertions will have created a new Physical Inventory Count which is indistinguishable from one created within the Store Manager application. Using the Profiler you can easily see the T-SQL calls RMS Manager makes on the Database when a Physical Inventory is committed. You should base your code on what you see happening in the profiler.

You can easily improve on the RMS physical inventory UI by allowing the following...

- Allow me to name and save filters I've used to create count lists (instead of having to recreate the filters everytime I want to use them)

- Allow me to create a form with my list of items (independent of any filter) and save that form. Everytime I want to do a physical inventory on this set of items I can simply click on the form to bring the list up. It would be nice to also save the Description field as part of the form.

- Make a "Date Last Counted" column an option on the count form so we can see how old our current count is.

- Keep the data entry form UI simple and uncluttered, but allow customizing of the date entry UI and *allow the user to persist their customizations* so that they don't have to be readjusted every time a new form is created. For example, we don't need the Department, Category, or Bin Location columns on the form, so I always have to take them off and adjust the column widths to where I need them. I wish RMS could remember my changes.

- Implement a dialog for adding items to the Physical Inventory Count form that can be filtered, and most importantly, allows multi-select.

Also, it would be nice if you wrote the your app using managed code (C# would be great) and made your source code available for others to modify and enjoy. ;)

Thank you for your reply.. for the database I don't have problems.. because I know tables and fields :) (I work with this database from

2002)

With wireless solution we have only a problem.. the connection isn't stable.. It's possible to work on local database and through IIS or code to synchronize local db with RMS db...

Other idea for my project?

Antonio

p.s. the language is C# and SQLCE for ppc database.. but the problem is the PPC, now I can't buy a PPC

James,

New West Technologies offers an RMS Mobile Suite that does: Physical Inventory, Purchase Orders, Work Orders, Transfers and Sales (with integrated CC processing and digital signature capture). It runs on wireless Pocket PC devices and is fully integrated, in real time, with RMS and RMS reporting.

The Suite was recently awarded the MBS Solution Development award at the recent regional parter conference.

Please contact me if you'd like more information.

rick,

then i would hate to be your customer if you think that paying almost the same amount as the pos software for an addon is competitive.

My goal is not to buy a solution for pocket pc.. but to develope for my customer (with src code I can do what customer ask)

If you are a small store you probably don't understand the advantages or the value. We bought the New West solution and it's worth 10x the price in saved man-hours, fewer counting mistakes, line busting on Saturdays, and simplified inter-store transfers.

I wouldn't say you're whacked, but you probably aren't big enough to realize the benefits or return on investment.

Like any software I 'm sure they could sell it for less, but there are plenty of RMS users who aren't going to flinch at paying $500 for wireless inventory software or $1500 for the full suite of functions. In our case the system paid for itself within a couple months including the hardware cost.

To each his own. Do the math and decide for yourself.

Bravo Antonio! If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I'll be looking forward to making use of this software when it is completed. I believe a great number of us will be quite grateful for having this available.
