POS on SQL 2k5 STD. Help!! ;-)

Does anyone know where I can get a White Paper for deploying POS v2.0 on a Win2k3 Server with SQL 2k5 Standard Edition?

After the install of POS on this server I can't create a database using the POS database wizard.

I actually want to create my POS database in SQL Server 2k5 Standard Edition.

Can I please get some help from the experts?

Thanks,

hi , first of all you no need to worry as all concept of the database edition are same. only the diffence is that how you installed the sql 2k5 using DEFAULT INSTANCES OR or NAME INSTANCE. to find this run SQL Server Managmenet Studio and connect to db. off course you can connect by windows and sql authtentication.

Now go to SO Administrator program, go to file and click on connect put the name of the server (if name instance are install then servername/instances name) then put the user id and password remove the database name and then hit the connect button, if this works then no problem you can go to wizard and create the database.

Hi Akber,

What sequence of installation should I use on my Win2k3 Server? Install POS v2.0 first, and then install SQL 2k5 Standard Edition, or Install the SQL before the POS?

What is the OS you refer to in your second paragraph?

Do I need to create a database in SQL Management Studio & then connect to it in POS Getting Started Wizard, or should I be able to create the database in the Getting Started Wizard?

Much Thanks!!

Hi Akber,

I created a test database in the SQL Management Studio & in the Getting Started Wizard I selected "I already have a store database" & entered the correct parameters.

POS seemed to see my test database but I'm getting an error "The version of the database selected doesn't match the current version required by the application".

Any ideas?

Thanks for any feedback!

hi, I am in some extend agree with convol. that I was thinking that you are using RMS anyhow it is not big deal seems that microsoft not handle with database plateforms but only the people can asnwer is microsoft. the sequence of installation.

  1. Install the SQL server first
  2. REstart the machine and make sure the sql server service is running
  3. install the POS
  4. Try to connect to db first and then create the database using the wizard

Hi Akber,

I was able to confer with Microsoft that POS v2.0 is only able to create its database when installed on Windows XP or Vista, not a server OS like Win2k3. It does support SQL 2k5 Standard Edition but only when installed on XP or Vista.

They recommend installing the XP or Vista OS, POS & then SQL, which I think upgrades the SQL Express that POS automatically installs by default.

I'm not sure if RMS can run on the server or is also designed for XP/Vista.

Thanks for your assistance!!

hi Tyitchin,

Regarding the RMS it works with any version of desktop and server and there is no problem like POS in it. so go ahead
