Receipt Template?

Is it difficult to re-create a receipt template, and then use the newly created one, instead of the actual receipt template?

I guess that depends on what you are trying to change. Here are the basic steps:

1) Make a copy of the receipt template you want to modify - SO Manager - Databage/Registers/Receipt Formats - select the template you want to edit and go to properties - Pick a template ("Sales" for example) and click the Properties button for that template - Click Save As and give the file a name - this creates a new XML file with the properties and settings from your old receipt.

2) Edit the XML file you just created to make the changes you want.

3) Create a new receipt format based on your modified template - SO Manager - Databage/Registers/Receipt Formats - Click New - give the format a name and description - click the magnifying glass icon (Look up) for the "Sales" template and select your new XML file - you will get a prompt asking if you want to apply this file for all templates - generally say yes, unless you have made edits that only work for one transaction type. The last template "Report" will not be set - make sure you select a Report template, then click OK.

4) Set your register to use the new receipt format - SO Manager - Databage/Registers/Register List - Select your register and go to properties. Go to the Receipt Printer 1 Tab - in the "Options" section at the bottom of the tab, select your new Receipt Format.

5) Close and restart Manager and POS - your new template should now be active.

Well, you can certainly save yourself an awful lot of typing by modifying an existign template. Starting from scratch would require a *ton* of typing.

Are you wanting a receipt format that's so different from anything available that you would need to start from scratch?

For example: I took the standard MS full page 'Invoice' template from the CustomerSource library and cut it down to 5.5x8.5 (half page), added Reference & Comment to work order receipts, added 'M Tu W Th F S' to the top of the footer (we circle the delivery day), changed the column headings (Quantity to Qty, etc. to facilitate the smaller paper), added tbBoxRows to the line item table formatting to help with readability and widened the Transaction Type column width to accomodate the Account Payment receipt. Even after all of that, I'd say that 95% of the original XML code is still intact. Frankly, I wouldn't have even attempted to create a half-page invoice from scratch.

TT,

Would you mind posting your receipt? I'd like to take a look at it and maybe steal some of your ideas! ;-)
