RMS : Developer Information needed

Hi,

I have a customer who is running RMS. And they would like use a Web Store which we have developed.

What do I need to do to get access to the RMS POS software, and Headquarters software. I have MSDN subscription, however RMS is not available for download, but all the other Dynamics products are available.

Where do I get the Developer version's of RMS and Headquarters?

There are several existing RMS e-Commerce solutions available. In my estimation any new integration would literally take years to catch up to whats already available and as a result would be much more costly than what is currently available off the shelf. Trust me when I tell you that integration to RMS is much more complicated than you could imagine, especially since you've yet to even see RMS or the database architecture. If you research this group you'll see many threads on this that will provide you a bit of insight here.

Good luck!

Hi Russell obviously I'm going to be a bit biased since our solution has been very successful for the past three years and continues to grow in feature sets and flexibility. What Todd and TF stated above is absolutely correct. This integration is very complex and is not something to take on just for one client. It took Kosmos about a year just to really get a grasp on RMS and that's because we're continually supporting new clients every week and each integration is never black and white. If you're looking to integrate your custom cart with RMS our Dispatcher product would be ideal for you. Feel free to give me a call when you have time and I can help you out with this integration.

Thanks for your reply.

I shouldn't have mentioned the word Web Store. The RMS customer just wants to be able to add a new customer to the RMS database. No transactions will take place via the Web. If a customer already exists, you deny data entry. If the customer is new, then you add a new customer. Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Telephone number.

Yes I absolutely agree. Integrating four software components 1) Cart,

2) RMS, 3) RMS Desktop Application to push to cart 4) Web Service that captures the data etc., is a nightmare. There are hundreds of features and integrating just a few of the basics (inventory updates of items) will take months and if you want to continue you'll be developing for years for just one or two clients. What happens when your client wants to upgrade to RMS 3.0 and you're still fooling around with the old architecture that you obviously don't understand. I hope you're not promising your client you'll succeed because I've reviewed this forum and have researched many options and there are only two that I would trust.

and Todd'sNitrosell Solution. You have to figure out what your needs are and gofrom there to make your determination between the two very distinctsolutions. You'll be better off managing the cart, modules and designthan trying to figure out the RMS integration. TF

Thanks for your two links.

There is no ISV or official Develoment tolkit for RMS available to the public at large. If you become an RMS reseller you get access to some customization information and imlementation guides. Contact me by email and I will send you what I can where we are not under NDA with Microsoft.
