Upgrading / installing new Version 1.3 ?

Apr 27, 2006 8 Replies

Hi,

How do I install new version 1.3 with the CD that I got? I already have an existing RMS running and I want to install without interrupting anything and without erasing any of the existing database/info that I have. Is there any instruction on how to do this right?

Just back up database and any and all custom receipt/templates/reports. then un install the old one reinstall the new one. have to re-point all folders again and put back custom stuff your good to go.

Zorian,

Follow Rick's advice, but since you've waited this long, may as well wait another week or so for 1.3R in the mail.

Hi Rick, sorry for a dumb question but what do you mean by "re-point folders" and how would I do that - are there such instructions in the manual?

Also, which directories are the databases in? And am I backing up the databases for safety purpose or because I will need to copy them back?

Thanks, Zorian

Vince,

The R stands for Refresh. Its when MS has to create a new master CD. Why they aren't calling it 1.4 is beyond me.

It will include all hotfixes and modifications since the 1.3. It will also allow for Windows 2000 users to install the update, (they were prevented from 1.3 and MS relented) and most importantly officially support SQL 2005.

Jeff, do you know what Rick means by "re-point folders" ? I am trying to figure out what I will need to set up or configure once I uninstall 1.2 and install new 1.3 version. I just want to know what specifically I need to do when I begin installing 1.3 and need the system up and running (and I am not an IT guy so I don't know much about databases, etc.).

Zorian,

The only thing I can think of is that he's talking about is in Administrator | File | Configuration | Templates and the Paths tab, but that info is stored in the registry and won't change.

In all of our client updates, we had them do a backup of the database in Manager | Utilities and copy the Reports, Labels, and CrystalReports folders somewhere else for a backup.

Then uninstalled RMS in Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | re-start the computer | slip in the 1.3 CD, install, and re-start again. It will find the dongle again on restart
