New Version - 1.3

I just recieved a box in the mail with RMS Version 1.3. has anyone been brave enough to try it out yet? Can i install it on top of our existing 1.2 version? Will it erase any settings, macros, etc...?

It's always good practice to back up all customized receipt templates/labels/database/etc... You will have to un-install 1.2, then install 1.3 Macros are stored in the database, so my initial thought is no.

Be aware 1.3 will NOT work with windows 2000 or older any more, only XP and

2003...

I assume that all stations need to be upgraded at the same time?

Could I run the 1.3 manager and administrator in our back office over the

1.2 database on the POS? Or have there been database changes as well that would require the POS to upgraded at the same time?

There is no specific reference to that in the readme file. I would stick to the usual procedure and do them all at once. I have installed a copy on a test machine, but not gotten that far. I did a fresh install to find out the undocumented differences. I have not done an upgrade install. I know in the past there have been database changes with a minor version release, but this time I am not sure. Anyone else know??

You must backup custom files and all labels and receipt templates etc. as they will get overwritten this time. Read the Readme.txt file on the cd for Microsofts instructions.

root,

It may have updated the SQL database to SP4. Check by going into SO Admin | Connect | Query | New | type Select @@version | Press F5. If it says

8.00.2039 it updated it to SP4, 8.00.760 it did not.

I see we are all alittle skeptical on the install. Glad to know it is not just me.

Just a little bit more involved this time.

But the kicker for me is the timing. I'm sure MS has been under pressure to release a new version. I know I have been an advocate for it, but December is bad timing. A time with higher Holiday sales volumes and more customers for many is not a good time to be worrying about a software update for your POS system. We are waiting for January to upgrade...

Jeff,

We have been on sp4 since May, but you are correct it does update it if you are not currently on sp4 level.

My thoughts exactly. After the 1st of January before I upgrade a soul. No need blowing a whole year of data out, when you can wait and only lose a day or so should you need to back down. December is only for new sites! Ho Ho Ho. tb

root,

Almost, it updates MSDE only! For the full version of SQL Server, you have to download and install it separately. errrr! Got my 1.3 copy today, finally!
