Using Names, ie ALPHA as Purchase Order Numbers

I have been told that if i use any alpha based purchase order numbers may cause RMS to crash. In order to track customer orders it would be easy to use their name as the order number. Is this advisable?

I think you can use the alpha on PO number only in prefix.. the manager found the next po number using the right chars of PO number.

I was not aware of any such restriction and so have been using a three digit alpha suffix for 4-5 years now.

No problems that I am aware of. I do not use Headquarters.

We use HQ and our PO #s look like this:

S1234AB

Where S = First Letter of Store Location and AB = Purchaser Initials

We have had problems with deliveries being shipped to the wrong destination and now if a shipper calls with an unexpected delivery notification we can ask for a PO# and readily identify the correct destination.

No problems in RMS so far as I know.
