Virus in RMS?

Hello, I will be buying a retail system with RMS and I am wondering what kind of Virus program is being used by other RMS users.

  1. Do I need a virus program?
  2. Is it included IN RMS?
  3. I do not plan on using this system to go on the internet as I would a home system so do I need to add a virus program.
  4. If I need one can I easily add it after I'm up and running the store

Thanks

My router (FortiGate 60) checks all inbound & outbound traffic for viruses. It updates automatically and seems to work great. With the money I save on Norton subscriptions alone (we have 11 PCs in the building so virus subscriptions add up to hundreds of dollars annually) it wasn't hard to justify the expense.

For my mobile users, I've been installing Comodo Anti-Virus & Personal Firewall. I have also used their Spam Filter. So far, allof their free stuff seems to work very well. It's all 100% free, even for commercial use, which is pretty sweet. I read a review of their personal firewall in a PC Magazine or something. They got a 4.5 out of 5 (better than most of the non-free personal firewall software out there) and were highly recommended by the author/editor of the article. For the price, it can hardly hurt to check it out.

thanks Tom for the Anti-Virus suggestions. I'm a big AVG Free user but Comodo looks great. How can they offer such a good product with FULL versions for free?? AVG is Free but not the full addition. Anyway, looks cool I'll try it out some time.

Also, regarding your comment about the router with virus protection--does this really REPLACE client side virus protection? I installed a router that had virus protection on it and I loved it too (it was a Check Point Safe@Office 500W ~$500/25users). And this was my main concern...I just am not sure how safe it is to leave the clients without virus software at all but maybe it's the next big thing. Plus, the Safe@Office router is sold in bundles with AVG licenses so it seems that they are suggesting that you have client side protection. I'm not challenging your take on this, but I'm curious to know more about your experiences.

TT thanks, What I have is a 1 lane POS bundle with RMS to be installed It just dawned on me that most of the POS sellers on the internet ( I will be using a partner for mine) but anyway most of these places do NOT sell a anti-virus program with the POS Bundles I did not see it as an option on the sites. This will be my first POS system and would like to know if it's even needed and can I just add it like I would Norton or McAfee on a personal computer without causing a problem with checkouts I will be running XP Pro. Installing virus software is fine and shouldn't cause issues. Just make sure that the computer has enough RAM (at LEAST 512MB, more may be better) and is fast enough so that things run smoothly. The register needs to be nice and speedy with a decent amount of RAM to run all of the necessary services 24/7: RMS, Virus, Anti-Spy, Firewall, Credit Card software, UPS backup power supply software, Remote desktop (if needed), Store Manager, etc. will all be running virtually all of the time.

Also you can probably limit the use of the internet with a Firewall program.
