VPN with multiple stores

I'm planning out some retail stores using RMS POS and HQ. I understand that one machine in each store needs to have the dongle and that machine needs to be started first. I'm trying to understand how this works if I use VPN to connect the multiple stores together. Will all the stores see the same dongle in one particular store? Or do I need to configure VPN to have each store be on a different subnet so that each store can have its own dongle'd machine?

Thanks in advance for your help and insight.

Each store needs it's own dongle. I generally have each store VPN to HQ, but not to the other stores. Yes, each store should be on a separate subnet.
