You can just change the extension manually after you save it. Example - File saves as "report.txt" Rename it to "report.xml" and that's all there is to it.

Billr,

Try doing a Ctrl+S to save it. It should save it as the name it opened.

Are you using a Notepad replacement program? Help | About | should say "Microsoft Notepad"

I copy the xreport..give it a new name ..open it in notepad.. take out the hourly reports..and just cant get it saved..I keep getting messages about it being a read only file and or asks me to make sure the file name and path are correct..when I use ctrl+S it appears in the file box but wont close..there is a step I am missing..

They are all protected. Before you open the copied file, right click on it and click properties. Then uncheck the Read Only option and apply the changes. You should be able to edit and save it fine then.

Do a search for Cooktop XML editor (it's free). This will help when editing your XML files and it can check the validity of the file before you save it.

Billr and Morris,

Actually you need to remove all of this;
