Hello,

Any first hand experiences, good or bad, with QB Remote Access?

Thanks.

I did a bit of further research mainly on the QB site.

WebEx seems like a VNC type of application. Meaning, you remotely connect to a PC, run QB on the local PC and the remote PC just gets updates on its screen of what's on the local PC's monitor. In that case, the local PC can't be used at the same time.

Do you or anyone else knows if it is at all possible to run Quickbooks on the remote PC but access only the data file remotely and concurrently with another user?

WebEx or any other similar available remote connection methods (many are even free like QNext or CrossLoop ) could work but in this case the date/time of remote access cannot be scheduled for when the local PC is unattended.

Thanks for your help.

Windows Terminal Services. I believe now that is officially offered only for USA Enterprise version.

The small investment in an additional workstation running QB and a service like Logmein may be your most cost effective solution if only one remote session is required.

Definite possibility. I may even try using VNC in that case, to avoid any third parties being part of the connection. Thanks for the suggestion.

It the involvement of the third party that makes the connection simple amd reliable. There is a reason these companies are in business.

VNC is free, secure and no third party has a copy of the password that can be hacked and stolen from them. Yes there is a reason that those companies are in business.

Its all going up into the clouds someday so you might as well embrace it.

Simpler than VNC, maybe, but highly insecure and heavily prone to abuse.

The reason these companies are in business is the simplicity and usability factor that developers dismiss and ignore - somewhat similar to Intuit's approach in developing Quickbooks but people still use it because of lack of a decent alternative.

Just because something is on the market doesn't mean it meets minimum criteria for quality and dependability. The end users' ignorance and computer illiteracy are a bigger factor for direct market manipulation.
