Desperate for help TODAY!!

I have Quickbooks 2006 and 2007 running two different companies. I usually work on my desktop with both. They are also both installed on my laptop but I have not used QB on my laptop since September and I need to bring the database up to date today. I remember using a flashdrive to do this but cannot for the life of me remember all the steps and what to copy and then how to get it onto the laptop. Can some kind soul help this senior - leaving on a trip and must update as soon as I can today or will be out of luck.

Make a "back-up" of your current database on your flashdrive. Then "restore" it on your laptop.

Do a backup from your main computer QB and specify the location for the backup to be the flash drive.

Then do a restore on the laptop QB and specify the companies from the flash drive.

Voila!

Remember to update the laptop QB software before you do the restore.

Best,

Peter

Peter: The problem is when I get to the laptop (I put it on the desktop) - I go to restore file and go to desktop but then I cannot seem to get any further. It does not seem to recognize the file from the flashdrive and uses the date in March when I last updated this file. If I could see the size perhaps I could tell the difference.

Perhaps the date never changed on the flashdrive - I do not know. I am now doing the updates which you recommended and this is going to take a while.

Actually, all I want to copy is my customer database and I assume that I have to copy companyname.QBW - is that right?

You can transfer the file a couple of ways but if the QBW file is not too large just copy it to the flash drive using Windows explorer and replace the file on that computer.
