Running QB2005 Pro on Two Computers

I run QB 2005 Pro on my home desktop. I'm leaving town for a month. All of the ongoing work can await my return for entry into QB. But I may get a few queries about transactions which had been posted prior to the date of my departure. Here's my plan:

  1. Install my QB2005 Pro on my laptop, and restore onto the laptop copy a desktop backup as of the day of my departure.

  1. I seem to recall that without activation of the laptop copy I get either a certain number or times to open QB, or a certain number of days. So when I need to look up some transaction, I'd just open the copy, look up the information and close it.

Now, my desktop copy has been updated (payroll and general updates) a number of times during this year. Will that cause problems if I restore the desktop's backup into the un-updated copy?

Why have two computers at all? I have one laptop that I use for everything, for exactly this reason.

You should be able to install QBooks on your laptop with no problems. You may need to call the 800 # during registration to explain to Intuit that you are switching to a new computer. My past experience is that this should not be a problem.

If you have the registration code from the original installation you should be able to just register it without having to call Intuit.

Then make sure that you update both the desktop and the laptop to the same version before making your backup.

With your license number and Product code you can install QBP on your laptop by phoning Intuit and gettting a validation code. FWIW- next time write your Validation code with your other number/code and you won't even have to call Intuit. With that code , when you register-- do it by phone(which you ignore) and type in the validation code. Jeff
