activation QB pro 2004

Back in September 05, I bought a complete boxed copy (with 300 page manual) of QB Pro 2004. I installed it and activated it immediately, seeing as it would only start 15 times without such activation. Intuit activated it (I can't remember if they did it over the internet or by phone) but they did activate it. Recently, our hard drive became exceptionally scrambled. I cloned a good hard drive setup (using Acronis True Image) and re-installed QB Pro 2004. Well, you can guess where this is going, Intuit would not activate it over the phone. They said the serial number of my software was already registered to someone else, and it wasn't me. "But, you activated it the first time" I said. They said there was no record of me in their computers.

Rich (in Intuit Customer 'Service') said "fax in your purchase receipt, credit card bill, scans of the cd case etc." and he would walk me through a new installation and activation. I've faxed everything to him twice and no one from Intuit has responded.

This is legally purchased box set and they brushing me off. Any suggestions?

Hate to tell you this, but you could have saved yourself a lot of problems by writing down the registration code, simply by doing CTRL-1 while the program was running. Now you are stuck with dealing with Intuit. Unless you have the program installed on another computer. Then you could check out the info as I suggested

Where did you purchase this product? September 05 seems rather late for version 2004. If you purchased this on e-bay then now you know why you got it so cheap. Perhaps Intuit screwed up the first time in giving you an activation code.

I installed it and activated it immediately,

SIIA wants to sue us over a legally purchased box of software. Got to keep those receipts. People use key gens and register stuff with your S/N before you buy the box off the shelf. Sucks. So does Taiwan companies that make illegal copies of software and then distribute them worldwide. So do stores who know they are buying illegal copies to sell to unsuspecting consumers.

Since you've got the documentation have your lawyer send them the lawsuit letter via fax with a threat to hold a news conference. That should get attention at a level inside Intuit where a decision can be made and explained.

I assume you have called back and gotten brushed off, your not just waiting because the guy took off on vacation ...

You faxed the info.. now send it certified mail as well.

As to the serial number being registered to someone else.... was it possible someone else's name was used? In our company software might me registerd under the company name, my husband's name, my partner's name, my name or whatever person has installed the software. "Not you" is insufficient. Perhaps it IS you, but a digit is off, or your office has moved. Is it possible for the customer rep to search by phone number?

They said they had no record of my activation under street address, zip code, phone numbers or names. I listed all the names to Rich @ intuit of any person who could possibly use the software. This is a camera repair shop operated out of OUR HOUSE (for the last 18 years). It's me and my wife and possible our accountant. Since I install all software, it would be registered in my name. All the names were no go. I asked what kind of failure they had at their end that would delete the fact that I activated this software, he turned it back on me like I was trying to pull a fast one.

This situation has been resolved. I had prepared a nicely worded letter and packet of papers to send off to the Intuit CEO when the customer service guy got back to me. Seems the software dealer I bought from had been duplicating and reselling multiple copies of 1 serial number (eBargain Software) Rich walked me through the uninstall and reinstall with new codes. Now the activation code is written down in 4 places in case I have to go through this again. Of course, right at the end, I was warned that Intuit will stop 'supporting' QB 2004 in 2007, and that I should consider upgrading to QB 2006. I just chuckled.....
