Does Quickbooks Pro 2008 Require Product Activation?

I wonder if any of the folks here could answer that question. I try to stay away from products that require this. I am using an older version of Quickbooks, and can easily reinstall it on a new computer or hard drive and then just copy the .qbw file over. This may not be an issue for most people, but I do tend to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows (and all my apps) once every year or so. I don't need activation hassles.

Well I've got wonderful news for you. QB is one of those apps that phones home to be sure you have the correct activation, just like windows (post SP2) does. You will have big time hassles with the license and will have to use a telephone to get it straightened out.

May I suggest you get a second computer and use it for your business only and keep the games and downloads off it, run virus and spyware protection, so you don't have the problems that require regular reformats.

The only hassle is if you do not give them the same Installation Key Code, Business Name and Phone number used to install the software originally. If you have this information then the entire procedure is quick and easy. It is no big deal.

It IS a big deal if they have to go through all that.
