I have taken over the bookkeeping for a company that already had Quickbooks Pro 2005 set up by another bookkeeper. She used account names instead of numbers. I want to add account numbers which, I have done a number of times in the past with other QB files. For some reason, with this file when I add a number some of the accounts accept the number and others don't. When I go to "edit" the account the number is in the "number" box, but the number doesn't appear on the chart of accounts, nor can I use the number when working in Quickbooks. Does anyone have any idea of how I can fix this problem and get the numbers to "take"?

Is the account active?

Won't be at the office until Tuesday to verify, but I think there is an option to use account numbers in the company preferences. Is that option turned on?
I figured out the problem: The old bookkeeper left it set to multi-user mode so, when i switched to single-user mode I was able to add all the account numbers. Thanks
