Fancier Invoice

Is there a way to fancy up the builtin invoice so it looks a little more professional when printed? If it were to print just like it looks on the screen it would look OK. With the shaded bars etc. Is there a way to do this? TIA, GWB

What version of QuickBooks do you have? Almost all of them have a layout designer and can make some modifications. Have you even looked into that aspect?

Sure. We pre-print the invoice form using a color (ink-jet) printer. Included in this pre-printed form are company name, etc., logo, instructions for paying by credit card, and other things.

Then we tell QB to use a pre-printed form (without printing company name, etc.). Works swell with the following caveat:

Be careful about pre-printing a form on a laser then printing the actual invoice on a laser. The fusing heat of the second pass may smudge/smear the printing from the first pass.

Better yet if you prefer the look of preprinted forms have them prepared by a professional printer.

Tried that once - for our old accounting system where the bookkeeper wanted four copies of each invoice. Had them printed on four different colors of paper.

As it turned out, the "professional" printer ran them through his new Xerox Docuprinter (a glorified Xerox machine). Then, when the forms went through our laser printer, the printer's fuser melted the docuprinter's toner!

Such a mess, you couldn't imagine.

The "professional" printer would not take back 15,000 pre-printed forms or do them over on a printing press. That was twelve years ago; we're still using scratch-pads made from three cases of colored paper.

For some of us, doing it right is better than doing it "professionally."
