File Size Problem with QB Pro 2003

We've been using QBpro for at least 5 years. The main file size is

337MB (backup is 117MB). Is there a way to significantly reduce the file size without losing inventory, invoice, customer, item information?

How about moving into a new file but keeping the items, customer, inventory, vendors etc...... and when we need to look back at old invoices/receipts, we can just open the older file??

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try Archive & Condense on a copy of the file. It that doesn't significantly reduce the file size, your next option is to start a new file as you indicated. There are some tools that can help start a new file at

You can move to a new file, exporting the list items, customers etc. You'll have to enter the opening balances. You can also condense the file using the built in feature - for a file of that size I'd do it in small date spans to make sure things worked. You can keep a copy of the original file for reference - during condense reconciled items will be deleted and journal entries made for totals only.

Depends on how much work it would be for you to enter those beginning balances. I think I would try to condense since you are using the file daily and perhaps at year end start a new file.

You will not condense very much unless you reconcile bank accounts before condensing. QB Enterprise files are around a third smaller and it runs much faster. You will soon have a

5 user Enterprise for $2500 list, which we will sell for $1880.
