From what I have read about QB 2004 on this group it would seem I haven't a hope in hell of getting 2002 working. can someone confirm this is the case?

2007 works just grand.
Have you purchased Vista yet? I keep hearing that it is not quite a working O/S yet.

/09/25/0121204 You can create a short cut and then set the properties of the short cut to be compatible with old Windows--that is, always start up with the short cut. It can't be that bad, even if you are running it off a server using Vista.

Micros~1 has sold 55 million copies of Vista. The people who've had problems usually fall into one of the following groups.
- Their existing hardware is not powerful enough or they have devices for which Vista drivers do not exist (old printers, scanners, etc.).
- Those that do not like new things.
- Those that are irritated at the new security features.
- MSanthropes.
Thanks all but I am still not clear whether 2002 pro can be made to run on Vista.

It cannot run on Vista. The directory structure and registry are incompatible with Quickboooks 2002.
