Same QB 2010 pro license on a second computer?

Hi:

I use QB 2010 pro on a desktop computer. Can I load the same QB, with the same license, on my netbook computer?

This will be used rarely but is needed be me.

Oops, I think I found the answer.

"Installing a single-user license on a second computer: You can install QuickBooks on one computer used by only one person and on one additional portable computer (e.g., a laptop that you own and use in your business) used by the same person. ONLY that specified person can access and use QuickBooks on both computers.

To install QuickBooks on one additional portable computer, use the same installation numbers you used on your original installation. Follow the onscreen instructions when QuickBooks prompts you to register the second installation."

Yes. I suggest you make a not of the activation code you get and keep it.

Today I decided to install QB 2010 pro on my new Win-7 netbook as my second install of the same software pack. This is allowed under a few conditions.

I copied the install CD to an external hard drive and used that as the source of the install to the netbook which has no optical drive. This worked just fine. All I had to do was enter the same license code that I had earlier installed on my desktop computer with.

It installed immediately. I did have to enter the same login/password that I had used previously.

The hardest part was getting the new install to read and install a QBB backup from my desktop QB. It would give an amazingly helpful error report that said "Failed". Isn't that helpful.

Finally I must have done something right because it suddenly began working perfectly.

I'll look later into finding a simple way to sync the QB data between the two computers.

A bonus. I also managed to install M.S. Office 2003 OEM on the netbook without the slightest issue, which of course has nothing to do with this news group. I expected it to be difficult but was surprised.

You cannot sync the data between 2 computers. There is 1 master file

-- you would need to backup & restore. OR, you can use a 3rd party app (check

to import transactions from 1 QB file to another. However, the easiest method which I recommend is to use remote access. Install Logmein free version on 1 computer and leave it turned on. Then, you can login remotely and work on the QB data file.
