Opening Mfrs Edition company file in Pro

Feb 12, 2010 5 Replies

We have a client who uses QuickBooks 2007 Manufacturing Edition.

Could his company file be opened in QuickBooks Pro 2010?

Yes, you can open a copy of their file.

Note however-

  1. You will not see the special reports that are in the manufacturers edition.
  2. You cannot make any changes to send back to client.

Thanks, Karl.

I also chatted online with Intuit tech support and the rep said it could be done, but I don't take chat support as the last word on any subject.

That's OK. We weren't planning on sending the file back to the client. We just wanted to be able to export some account transactions to Excel, drill down on any transactions where we deemed it necessary, print out a trial balance, etc.

I didn't think we would have the ability to print any reports specific to the manufacturing edition, but I did want to know if we could at least open the file and not have a mess even if we could open it.

It's nice to have confirmation that this is doable from people in the trenches.

Did you say client? Why don't you have the accountant's edition?

We

If there is a report that is specific to the MFRS version have them memorize the report before you upgrade the file.
