After I updated Quickbooks 2004 to the latest through the File menu, I receive an error message:
Problem: Quickbooks Premier: Professional Services Edition 2004 cannot open this company file because the file has been updated to a newer version of Quickbooks. Solution: Restore a backup copy of this file that was made before the file was updated to the newer version. To do this, click OK, then click "Restore a backup file" in the No Company Open window. Or Upgrade your version of Quickbooks to the latest version.
I was able to retrieve a backup from last year and I get the same error message. I do not have any other versions of Quickbooks installed in this computer, and this file is not shared in any network, I am the only user of this database, and it's in my personal laptop. I am absolutely sure this happened when I applied the service update to Quickbooks. Unfortunately, they don't let me get some of the QB updates, you can only update to the latest, which doesn't let me open any of my files, even the backups.
Their support can only suggest to pay $430 to upgrade to the latest version of Quickbooks, which is unacceptable. My point of view is that if the product is still supported and they can't help me, it's not worth paying $430 every 2 years.
Has anyone else seen this? Anyone know how this could be? When I right click on the file, it says last opened with "Version Beyond Quickbooks 2004"
