Quickbooks Pro 2005 configuration problem

System is Win2k Pro sp4 running Quickbooks Pro 2005. System is stand-alone (non-networked) but has multiple user accounts including one account that is a member of the "Administrators" group and others who are members of the "Users" group. There is no firewall and McAfee has been disabled. Scans of the system indicate there are no unusual processes running and no unknown BHO's installed in IE. QuickBooks was installed under the administrator account.

At first glance everything appears OK when tested under the administrators account but anyone logging in under an account in the "Users" group are unable to load any of the Navigator (.qpg) pages. The IE window appears with an Action Cancelled message followed by a Windows message stating: Some files can harm your computer. If the file information below looks suspecious, do not open it. Save the file. File Name: Comppage.qpg File Type: QB Navigator Pages File From: (and it gives the path)

The file exists and all users have full control permissions in the Intuit sub-directory structure. I've tried the Intuit support line and it appears there is no one there that understands the application and what it is doing.

Does anyone here help me understand what it is I need to do to get this to work properly? Thanks in advance for any consideration you might care to offer.

IIRC, this can be caused by either incorrect Internet settings for IE or an ad or popup blocker software. In IE make sure that you have your security settings to the default all zones. I had to even add quickbooks.com as a trusted site in my ad-blocker to get the navigator pages to work. It did take some trial and error until I got the right settings.

OK, thanks laura. I'll take a look at those items. I do have the Google toolbar and the popup blocker is enabled. If I have to relax my IE security it's not likely to happen although I cam make quickbooks a trusted site.

I think I ran into this on QB2003 running under Terminal Services. Intuit says this can't be done, but I am now on my 8th year of doing so. I believe they need to be in the local administrators group in order to make this work the way you expect it. There is another workaround but it is very complicated and the local admins way would be far easier.

I absolutely refuse to provide end users with local admin rights. QB will disappear first. Peachtree is always an option. I too ran into this before, in 2002. Solved it by temporarily giving admin permissions to the user, having them login with new credentials and accessing all the features. This allowed the account to "fix" the registry. Then deleted their membership in admins. It then worked successfully thereafter. However that didn't work this time.

If you have a more troublesome fix I'd be glad to try it.

TIA
