Quickbooks Pro 99 and MS XP Compatibility

Hi all,

I'm new to the group and may be asking a question previously visited on this site. I have been using QBs Pro 99 since it's introduction and recently upgraded my computer and operationg system to MS XP. My QBs Pro 99 has been working fine but I now discover it wants to limit my uses in this situation. Is it kosher to want to find a work-around to this problem.

Just wondering if others have encounted this dilemna.

Yes, every user that has ever installed QB no matter what version and no matter what the operating system who does not register the program runs into this problem.

Hi Allan,

I purchased QB Pro 99 (and previous versions) in 1999 and registered it. When I upgraded my computer and operating system in 2005 I registered again - by phone. They told me that I must buy new software even though the QB Pro 99 version worked fine on MS XP. It automatically limited me to just 25 uses. This built-in obsolesence rubs me the wrong way.

I might mention I am retired now and don't need this powerful program but am use to the routine and wanted to continue without the hazzle and expense of changing programs.

Thanks for your reply.

You had two oportunities to write down the registritation code and didn't, you should accept part of the blame.

Hi again Allan

I have the original registration code written down. Is there a new registration code I was not given when I called? They gave me every indication that my QB Pro 99 wouldn't work with MS XP and that I must buy a new version of the software, even though it was working fine. Maybe I don't understand your reply. Are you saying a new registration number would allow me to use my QB Pro '99 with MS XP?

Thanks for helping with this confusing matter.

There is only one unique code that unlocks your program from running in demo mode to full use mode. If you wrote it down then use it. The code stays the same no matter how many times you install it.

Hi Allan,

Exactly how do I enter this code when opening the software?

Thanks again for your help Allan.

Open the software, when it tells you to register type in all of your info. Its been forever since I reinstalled '99 but if there's an option to register by phone select that one as it allows you to manually enter the registration number. BTW the serial number is what came with your cd, the registration number is what was received upon registering after first use (and again after your phone call). You need both to bring the program out of trial use.

Hi Tee,

I believe this could have been cleared-up when I initially called Intuit. I will try calling them again as internet registration isn't working and I don't see any other option offered.

Thanks for your help folks.

Hi again,

Just to follow-up in-case others might have the same concerns:

I just tried the QB Pro 99 phone option and a window appeared asking for my registration number - which I entered - and the program seems to be working fine. This was my last use (25th) before denying access.

Thanks again.

Yes, that's what I told you to do in my post. You will do this anytime you reinstall a QB version older than 2004.

Intuit doesn't support products older than 3 years so while they while they still work Intuit will tell you to upgrade and/or that they can't help you. Just don't lose your registration number.
