Restoring Files

Was using QuickBooks Premier 2003. Bought Premier 2004 non-profit, installed it in a different computer and added a few transactions when the hard drive trashed in the different computer. Do have some back ups.

I have the 2004 CD and want to re-install 2004 in the same computer as

2003 but don't want to overwrite 2003. What's the easiest way to get the data from the 2004 backups into the newly installed 2004. And are there any pitfalls to installing 2004 in a computer that has 2003 without overwriting.

Thanks

Q 1: File, Restore.

Q 2: Pitfall #1, use of extra disk space. If this is a problem, you should quickly get a new hard drive. Pitfall #2, checking for updates of 2 versions of QB. If you have only a dial-up connection you may wish to disable automatic updating; some users do so even with a high-speed connection. I have multiple computers with multiple versions of QB, most with automatic updating, and have never had a problem in 10 years.

!-! answered your questions very well and, similarly, I've never had a problem using multiple versions of QB on the same computer. I'd just add that you need to pay attention when installing 2004 as the default installation directory is the same as the one 2003 is residing in. Make sure you change the installation directory to something like C:/Program Files/Intuit/Quickbooks 2004 so that you end up with both versions rather than accidentally overwriting 2003.
