Unable to Backup to Flash Drives

Nov 12, 2006 6 Replies

Recently encountered problem backing up QB Pro to two flash drives. I can backup successfully to external hard drive and two flash drives. However, when attempting to backup to couple other flash drives I receive screen message saying "Your data has NOT been backed up." "Quickbooks is unable to open this company file."

Maybe QB just doesn't like flash drives.

Any suggestions/recommendations greatly appreciated!

Just copy your company file to the flash drive with Windows Explorer.

Right. Flash drives are NOT disk drives. The drivers for the flash drives may not properly emulate a hard drive at the application level.

Okay - Appreciate the two responses. However, using Windows Explorer to copy to the flash drive I'd end up with a QBW file on the flash drive rather than a QBB file. The QBW will be about twice as large as the QBB file.

Thanks again for the two quick responses.

So what? How big is your file and how small is your flash drive?

Backup your file to the desktop, then go to windows explorer & copy to flash drive. N Owen To reply, please change "ONE" to numeral

Sure. The backup process compresses "Acme Termite Control and Massage Company Incorporated" to ".a#yyl?"

Backups are smaller (usually) than raw data.
