Units of produc

Hi all, I'm trying to use QB to run operations for our flying club. I'm getting stuck in a couple of places:

- When a club member flies a plane and an invoice is created, can an automatic journal entry be made to reduce the value of the plane for the number of hours flown (depreciate it, in essence, by units of production)? I think I could make it work by somehow involving the inventory function , but I'm not sure.

- Each month every member prepays for an hour of flight time. I'd like to be able to track these prepaid hours, as our internal policy is that they expire if unused after 3 months (it could be tracked as hours or dollars of flight time). Then I want to be able to apply the prepaid hours against flight time used during a given period.

Any help would be appreciated.

Frank, CPA (but in the nonprofit and tax world - not much QB experience)

Interestingly yes. Setup an inventory item for each plane. Use an Inventory Adjustment to setup the planes in inventory. The quantity would be the total estimated hours of life. Just invicing the user would decrease the basis of the plane.

Put the payment in a Prepaid Time account.

Create an Item (of the type service or other charge) called Prepaid Time and point it to the Prepaid Time account.

When you invoice a user,

Item qty amt flight time, plane 1 6 300 Prepaid Time (150)
