Fix Quicken 2002 freezing on Windows XP SP2: Solutions & diagnosis (2023 Update)

I am having problems with Quicken 2002Se now that I have upgraded to XPSP2. 50% of the time I go to open Quicken it causes a freeze in the PC, or when I close the programme it tells me there was a fault and before I can open Quicken again I need to reboot the PC.

Anyone having a similar problem or know how to correct it? I don't really want to upgrade, 2002 does everything I need.

Cheers,

I ran Q2002 deluxe for Windows, US for quite a while under Windows XP Pro SP2 without any problem. Have you tried reinstalling Quicken?

I run Q2002 deluxe on Win XP Home SP2 and while it takes a while to start up (before and after the password box), it runs fine. It does seems to me that it didn't use to have this long delay at startup, but I can't be sure that it is necessarily related to SP2.

It is likely that Quicken 2002 is not fully compatible with Windows XP SP2. As a result, it may cause issues such as freezing or crashing. A potential solution would be to try running Quicken 2002 in compatibility mode. To do this, right-click on the Quicken 2002 shortcut and select Properties. In the Compatibility tab, check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". Additionally, you could try running Quicken in safe mode to see if that resolves the issue.

You might also consider upgrading Quicken to a more recent version if possible, but it's worth noting that older versions of Quicken may not be supported by the manufacturer and will not receive updates or bug fixes.

There are a few additional things you can try to diagnose the issue with Quicken 2002 on Windows XP SP2:

  1. Check for updates: Make sure you have the latest updates for Quicken 2002 and Windows XP SP2 installed.

  1. Run a virus scan: Make sure your computer is free of viruses and malware. Sometimes, these can cause issues with software.

  2. Check for conflicting software: Make sure you don't have any other software running that may be conflicting with Quicken 2002. Try closing all other programs and see if that resolves the issue.

  1. Check for corrupted Quicken data file: Sometimes, the Quicken data file can become corrupted and cause issues. Try creating a new data file and see if that resolves the issue.

  2. Try reinstalling Quicken: If all else fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling Quicken 2002 to see if that resolves the issue.

If the problem persist, you may need to contact the manufacturer of Quicken 2002 for support or consider upgrading to a more recent version of Quicken
