Any banks (list?) which offer FREE Direct Connect?

I'm with wells fargo, and they told me that they charge for it.

I'm looking to change banks - to a good bank with free direct connect for quicken.

Also, I'm using q2004 home & business - is there any compelling reason for me to upgrade? I dont need additional features at this time.

Thanks for any help!

Wachovia is free

If you import QIF data, you may want to stay with 2004 as long as possible due to changes in 2005 and beyond. See following for more info:

Thanks for the reply. I'm not using QIF but will use the new format (for DirectConnect).

From some prelim. searching, I see that First Internet Bank (of Indiana) and NetBank also seem to offer DirectConnect free. It wasn't explicitly stated/clear to me that these were free to use DirectConnect but I assumed so.

If anyone has any feedback on Wachovia, NetBank, or First Internet Bank, I'd be very greatful. I'm going to be opening a new account with about $100 balance to see how it goes, so I'm looking for a bank with low minimum requirements. After it all goes well, I plan to open a savings/overdraft/moneymarket fund/acct. with the same bank.

Thanks for all feedback!

I've had accounts with Wachovia (and before that First Union) for more than

10 years. There have been very few problems with Direct Connect. The few times I've had to contact their tech support folks I was pleased with the results.

If you do not care about local branches, USAA Federal Savings Bank is an excellent company (part of USAA). Checking, savings, credit-card, and investments.

Those are credit cards. The question is about BANK accounts.

I'm banking with First IB - it provides very good friendly services. DirectConnect with Quicken is free, but it's only for checking and saving accounts. CDs are supported through web-connect (QFX). BillPay and Fund Transfers are not yet supported through DirectConnect - you'll need to initiate those on the FirstIB site.

Presently, BankOne offers more superior DirectConnect implementation with Quicken (free, no extra charge). I think, National City Bank does, too. But their interest rates suck.

I have used a Wachovia checking account for 2 yrs - free direct connect and bill pay. Have been very happy with them.

However, for new customers, you are not able to send checks via uploading from Quicken. They require putting in the check transactions via their internet site. This is the case for a new account set up for my parents.

Bank of America. I think there is a significant minimum balance of a few thousand dollars. I have been using it for a few years and have been very happy with it.

IIRC, it is free if you have direct deposit of any check. Payroll, SS and/or pension checks qualify.

AmSouth Bank has free direct connect with Quicken and Money.

I just updated from q2004 to q2005 (not q2006). My compelling reason was that q2005 premier home and business is available on eBay for about $15. I really don't need the business part, but Quicken Deluxe 2005 was $9.95. For $5 more why not get premier.

Quicken Deluxe 2006 is about $50 on eBay and Quicken.

New versions of Quicken have be notorious for being unstable. So I always try to stay at least 1 year behind the latest release. Q2005 is on release

  1. The Q2004 I had was on release 5 I believe. Not only do you save about , but you also get a stable release.
