Any other hidden tricks out there like SUPER Validate?

So... to super validate a file, you have to hold down CTRL/SHIFT and run file operations --> validate

Any other not-so-documented tricks out there?

Yes, exactly as documented in "hidden" KB #6148.

What undocumented feature (trick) are you trying to invoke?

Uhh... ok, so I suppose it's in the knowledge base somewhere... it's not in the help file, though...

I had to learn the hard way about super validating... I had a quicken file I had been nurturing since 1996 that had some data corruption problems. val and super validate helped.

I guess I'm just curious about other backdoor things like hitting CTRL Z on investment accounts to recalculate... that type of thing.

OK, I thought you were having some specific problem.

This NG is the best undocumented feature. Had you posted a Q problem here and data corruption was suspected, you would have been advised (probably within hours) to try different troubleshooting methods, and almost certainly worked up to a supervalidate if nothing else worked. You also would have been advised to backup prior to validate or supervalidate.

One "trick" I learned here several months ago was regarding split transactions. When entering a line in a split window, if you want to duplicate the line immediately above, type a quote. I have no idea if this is documented, but after at least 15 years of using Q almost daily, this is one of the most useful features I have learned here.

It would be nice if there was a short cut summary for Quicken similar to the one people use for Tivo (maybe there is and we just don't know about it).

Just as I don't know about a Tivo short-cut summary, but I do know about the list of keyboard shortcuts in the Quicken help file under "Keyboard shortcuts".

to Andrew DeFaria: Do you have such a list on the Quicken Wiki? I think you might have on your old website in days of yore....

When I opened up

I spent some hours transferring over what was still relevant from the Unofficial Quicken 2000 (note the 2000) web site. When I came down to undocumented features/keystrokes, etc. I felt that most of them were just too old and useless. Many (most) of them were for an old snake like animations on the old Help: About Quicken splash screen which no longer exists. That left mainly the Super Validate sequence which I felt was pretty well known and didn't warrant a page of own.

But, you see, the beauty of a Wiki is that you, the reader, can add your own content. Alas, nobody (zero, zip, nada) has yet. BTW: I will probably let the domain expire and shut it down. If you guys don't want to pitch in and help and only want to leach off it in read only mode then it will go away - trust me.

Andrew - I did post the files concerning QIF formats as comments to one of the FAQs. That's what I thought adding content was to do. I also thought that I had seen others in there as well, but perhaps all was of your doing.

Perhaps your post will inspire others? I hope that we can let this go a bit longer....maybe another post with a relevant subject as opposed to this meta-discussion in this thread is warranted?

Yes I see the comments now. But adding to the actual wiki would be preferable to comments on an entry. Note I would fully understand if you said you didn't know how exactly do to that - hell even I'm learning how to do such things. Plus perhaps your user needs to be elevated to that of /editor/ in order to edit things. I don't know, I'm an editor and an admin so I probably see things you don't. In any event it's not like people have been breaking down my door trying to become an editor nor complaining at all that they can't add to the site - a sure sign to me that nobody really cares. You've now been made an editor. See if you can move your stuff into the FAQ entry about QIF formats so that that topic is more complete. Let me know if you need further assistance.

By and large I've done 99% of it. :-(

Let's hope...

You have approximately 1 year. If the renewal notice comes up and the site is still stagnant then I ain't gonna be paying to renew the domain...

I'm not gonna be spending any more time updating the site - at least not anymore time than anybody is apparently spending - IOW especially if nobody else is gonna. I'm also not gonna spend my time trying to advertise or promote the site either. It's there. You can use it - you all can use it. I'm done with dedicating my life to Quicken users - been done for a quite some time. I believe I'd already done more than my fair share of Quicken support over the years anyway.
